Code of Conduct

Vidar exists to make communities safer. This Code of Conduct sets the expectations for Operators who deploy Vidar and for anyone who interacts with it. Using Vidar responsibly is a condition of using it at all.

Our commitment

We build Vidar to be effective and privacy-respecting: minimal data, non-reversible hashing, short retention, and explainable decisions. We will not add features designed to surveil, deanonymize, or profile individuals beyond what safety verification requires.

Expectations for Operators

• Be transparent. Tell your members that verification collects anonymized network and device signals, and link them to the Privacy Policy.
• Be proportionate. Use thresholds that fit your community. Don't block entire legitimate populations (for example, all VPN users) without good reason.
• Keep a human in the loop. Treat scores as guidance. Review borderline cases and offer members a fair way to appeal a denial.
• Protect the data. Limit who can access the dashboard and detection logs to trusted moderators. Don't export or repurpose member data.
• Don't weaponize detection. Vidar must not be used to stalk, dox, or retaliate against individuals.

Prohibited uses

• Attempting to reverse hashes or re-identify users from Vidar's signals.
• Using Vidar to build cross-community dossiers on individuals.
• Deploying Vidar in communities that violate Discord's Terms or Community Guidelines.
• Using detection outcomes to harass, threaten, or discriminate unlawfully.

Reporting

If you believe Vidar is being misused, contact the Operator of the relevant server, and, for abuse of the Service itself, the Vidar maintainer at support@vidars.online. Serious violations of Discord's rules should also be reported to Discord.

Enforcement

We may suspend access for deployments that violate this Code of Conduct or the Terms of Use.
